Providence Health & Services RN Hospice Education/Quality Specialist in Torrance, California


Providence is calling an RN Education/Quality Specialist (Full time/Day shift) to Providence TrinityCare Hospice in Torrance CA.

This position is Monday-Friday, with options to telecommute on some days.

We are seeking a RN Education/Quality Specialist who will be responsible for reviewing and auditing clinical documentation that supports clinical quality and ensures compliance with acceptable standards of practice, applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Responsible for overall implementation of current clinical standards and practices through the development of staff. This position uses data to identify and deliver coaching and clinical improvement strategies and initiatives to achieve clinical excellence. The role skillfully combines a primary focus on clinical knowledge and education with an emphasis on performance improvement.

In this position you will:

  • Participate in New Employee Orientation and ensures new staff members are prepared with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their roles and are oriented to the Medicare Conditions of Participation and accrediting body requirements and relevant requirements for care and documentation

  • Conduct and validate skill competencies for clinical staff

  • Responsible for timely submission of hospice item set (HIS) data to CMS. Review the Electronic Health Records and corrects HIS information

  • Assist Quality Improvement and Education to achieve the efficient and effective delivery of patient care resulting in positive patient outcomes through the implementation of clinical standards and education

  • Develop and perform chart audits to ensure compliance with regulations and to support clinical improvement and quality initiatives

  • Identify through audits deficiency trends for Medicare Conditions of Participation, clinical care, coordination of care, and documentation Educate staff in correction of these deficiencies

  • Monitor audit trends; recommend practice, policy and procedure changes as appropriate

  • Use data sets and information to identify opportunities and successfully mobilizes clinical and other resources to achieve improvements

  • Facilitate provision of clinically competent care by staff through education, role modeling, team building and quality monitoring

  • Educate staff to expectations of appropriate documentation, standards of practice and quality patient care

  • Develop and provide in-services to meet the needs of the staff and requirements of regulatory agencies and Policies and Procedures


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or RN with equivalent work experience

  • Current RN license required in the state practiced

  • Possesses and maintains current BLS Certification

  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is in good working order and insured in accordance with state and/or Providence requirements

  • Hospice and Palliative Care Certification within one year of hire

  • Minimum 2-years hospice and/or palliative care RN experience

  • Minimum 3-years recent professional nursing (RN or LVN) experience in clinical, administrative or teaching capacity, including at least 2 years of hospice/palliative care nursing

  • 3 months experience with EMR applications

  • Proficient in use of computer applications, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrates ability to perform each essential job function and fulfill all required self-study modules and testing successfully

  • Requires the ability to work effectively independently and with a team

  • Requires ability to organize and prioritize work, complete assignments on time

  • Requires good organizational and interpersonal skills to facilitate and manage change

  • Proficiency with EMR applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience as an Instructor/Educator
