Providence Health & Services Respiratory Care Practitioner in Torrance, California
Description:
Providence is calling a Respiratory Care Practitioner (Per Diem/Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance, CA.
We are seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner who will, under the direct supervision of a medical director, and department director, perform management, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities which affect the pulmonary system and associated aspects of cardiopulmonary and other systems function within the scope of practice of Respiratory Care Practice Act 1996. The Respiratory Therapist will perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment of initiative to apply prescribed treatments and testing in a safe, professional manner. This position will be accountable and responsible for the delivery of direct respiratory care to all age ranges of patients from neonates to adults and through the assignment and direction of the Patient Care Leader, utilizing a collaborative care patient management process, meeting established standards of respiratory care and integrating other health care team members.
In this position you will:
Use the clinical processes of assessment, respiratory diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation for all patients, documenting the same
Perform the duties of a RCP as defined in the role description, at a proficient level
Demonstrate competency in selected technical and psychomotor skills
Administer medications to respiratory tract per physician prescription including: HHN, IPPB, CPT, Continuous Bronchodilator Therapy, Surfactant, or any other FDA drug approved for such application
Perform EKG, ABG and related quality control, once hospital documented competency is acquired
Report abnormal ABG to M.D. or R.N. giving accurate interpretation as requested, utilizing Critical Value Reporting Policy
Assist with Bronchoscopies as assigned
Assist in emergency situations following established procedures
Identify patient and family respiratory care education and learning needs and implement measure to meet those needs. (i.e.: pulmonary hygiene)
Be responsible for all equipment aspects associated with respiratory care, i.e. utilization, assembly, cleaning, etc. (to include but not limited to e.g., handheld, ventilators etc.)
Demonstrate sound basic knowledge in the caring and the decision-making process for a designated patient population
Documentation/ Information Management:
Demonstrate competency and working knowledge of the Hospital Information System and Respiratory NUR component
Properly utilize the admission history and other computer based communication and data base systems
Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital related information
Perform documentation on unit records and in patient’s record, which is timely, accurate, and concise
Communicate all relevant patient information to other caregivers at intershift report, patient transfer, and patient discharge
Understand Automatic Stop Order procedure and properly documents relevant information
Leadership and Supervision: (Charge Responsibility)
Assess competency of staff
Assign and coordinate patient care
Staff shifts based on patient volume and departmental staffing standards
Preceptor/orient new staff and maintain staff records
Demonstrate flexibility in resolving staffing issues
Professional Growth/ Development:
Assume responsibility for own professional growth and practice
Attend staff development activities for the department, including staff meetings
Participate in presenting in-services as requested
Maintain certification and competency in BCLS
Maintain all required licenses and certificates
Performance Improvement/Quality and Safety:
Participate in performance improvement activities as needed and works to correct deficiencies identified
Actively support the facility with regards to continuous compliance with all regulatory and performance improvement standards including, but not limited to JCAHO, Department of Health Services, CMS Core Measures, IHI initiatives, etc
Maintain current knowledge regarding JCAHO standards for this position
Commit to and actively participates in ongoing compliance
Need to be knowledge of Tracer methodology
Provide the best care and service to every person, every time (PHS Quality Vision)

Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Associate's Degree in Respiratory CareOr Graduate of a two (2) year Respiratory Program
Current California State Respiratory Care Practitioner License
Registered Respiratory Therapist required for all new grad Respiratory Therapist applicants.
Note: Respiratory Therapist credentialed prior to 1/1/15 are grandfathered as Certified Respiratory Therapists.
Pulmonary diagnostics to include Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) certification and quality control
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Lifer Support (ACLS) certification sponsored by the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification sponsored by the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire
One year in an cute care setting to include critical care
Neonatal Intensive Care experience
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Electrocardiogram (EKG) competency certified
Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) experience.
Membership in a professional organization; CSRC, AARC
