who brought health care and other social services to the American West when it
was still a rugged, untamed frontier, PSJH is guided by a singular commitment
to improve the health of all. Now, as the health care landscape changes
dramatically, they draw upon their pioneering and compassionate spirit to plan
for the next century of health for a better world, especially for the poor and

Since the 2016 merger of
Providence Health and St. Joseph Health, areas of focus have included
transformation, strengthening of its core, and growth; now, PSJH is undertaking
a number of innovative initiatives system-wide. The health system is
developing an institute model for specialty care across the seven states it
serves – a virtual network that links all of its care locations, solving gaps
in continuity of care for patients and creating a seamless experience for them
and their families. This model offers clinicians timely access to
best-practice findings, data, and reports, and offers patients quality, compassionate
care closer to home, with predictable costs and outcomes.
Key features of this
institute model include: patient navigation, concentration of
multidisciplinary clinical expertise, accelerated research and innovation, a
proprietary data repository for genomics, clinical experts from seven states
defining quality measures within disease types, a delivery system organized
around key treatment locations with best outcomes, a network that ensures that
patients have the right care at the right time in the right place, and a focus
on care close to home supported by digital technology. The goal is to
unify relevant services, resources, and expertise under six clinical

PSJH is working to bring health care into the digital and consumer age with the
goal of better serving patients and consumers, delivering care on their terms –
where, when, and how they want it. To achieve that goal, the health
system has formed three teams that work together to identify, pilot, and drive
the adoption of new technologies and business models. The Digital
Innovation Group actively builds software to support patients, consumers,
clinicians and technology partners; the Consumer Innovation Group creates
health-related businesses in areas such as women’s health, senior services, and
chronic disease, partnering closely with Providence employees and patients to
