Providence Refill Center Specialist in Torrance, California

Description:

Providence is calling a Refill Center Specialist (Full-Time/Day Shift) to Providence Medical Institute in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Refill Center Specialist who will perform a variety of duties related to the Prescription Refill Center such as processing electronic and Faxed prescription/refills. Perform general clerical duties and services within the Prescription Refill Center.

In this position you will:

  • Review and filter (match drug, eliminate duplicates, etc.) electronic prescriptions refill requests received via electronic transmission (e.g., SureScripts) and assign them electronically to appropriate provider.

  • Process patients electronic prescriptions/refills.

  • Work closely with patient and pharmacy to migrate to electronic process.

  • Input and/or update patients’ information or prescription refill information in the electronic medical record.

  • Confirm information (provided by the provider) in the electronic medical record for authorized refills and communicate this information to the pharmacies requesting additional refills.

  • Call patient or pharmacy for drug information, if there are any questions regarding the refill request and documents calls in the electronic medical record.

  • Call patients to inform them of provider denials if the provider needs to see them before the medication can be refilled; may arrange appointment for patient. Document calls in the electronic medical record.

  • Process prescriptions that require prior authorization.

  • Process prescriptions refill requests received via fax or fax server by entering request into Epic and forwarding to provider for approval.

  • Attend meetings as required.

  • Follow departmental Policies and Procedures and adheres to the guidelines for Scope of Practice.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year work experience in a medical office setting.

  • Familiarized with the PDR ( Physicians Desk Reference) and ICD ( International Classification of Diseases) coding.

  • Knowledge of business office procedures.

  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient and medication information.

  • Attention to detail and ability to communicate/present questions when unsure of medications or instructions.

  • General office equipment operating ability (copier/fax/multiple line phone system, etc.).

  • Strong Customer Service Skills.

  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely to perform duties relating to telephone and to perform clerical duties.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers, employees, and the public.

  • Basic IT system skills, such as experience with electronic health record and software programs.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.

  • Epic knowledge is preferred.
