Providence Health & Services Principal Consultant ITM – PSJH in Torrance, California


Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Principal Consultant ITM – PSJH - to our location in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Principal Consultant ITM to provide expert level consultation to senior leaders and operational delivery staff. The Principal Consultant acts as both a solutions Architect taking caregiver/client inputs to drive solutions that support ITMs overall vision and goals as well as support Providence St Joseph Health's strategic goals. Working to support directly the focus of the Center of Expertise (COE) leader or field leader to build solutions that will solve organizational issues that align with the COE capability and strategy or the regional expectations or needs. This individual will drive strategic solutions working with the ITM Field Director and Centers of Expertise (COE)s to ensure successful development and implementation of key programs, processes and initiatives.

The Field Principal Consultant position reports to the Regional Director, ITM, and works in collaboration with the regional business leaders, HR Leaders, ITM COEs (e.g. Talent Management, Leadership Development, Caregiver Experience, etc.) and ITM Operations to ensure alignment of needs to the strategies of PSJH and the region. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels in PSJH Shared Services, as well as with other PSJH staff, vendors and agents.

• Partner with the Regional ITM Director to help define organization and talent strategies for assigned regions. Uses system, regional, and ITM strategies as the driving force to advise on, design, and implement appropriate solutions. Evaluates the effectiveness of solutions to ensure the organization is achieving the desired outcomes.

• Under guidance from the Regional ITM Director, provides expert-level consultation and implementation support to assigned regions and regional business leaders in the areas of organizational strategy and design, strategic workforce planning, talent management, leadership development, caregiver engagement and experience, and professional development.

• Support, and in some cases lead, project delivery, talent management and leadership development work and processes under the direction of the Regional ITM Director.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:


  • Work with Sr Management to drive subject matter expertise and consultation; as well as acting as a trusted advisor to our c-suite executives.

  • Able to drive and influence solutions that align with our organizational goals and strategies.

  • Display perseverance when working through and driving new ideas and solutions working as a change agent/champion to help bring workforce along to new state of optimization.

  • Provide expert level strategic consulting capability – (understand business strategy/ assess presenting challenge/opportunity/ appropriately scope and align solution/develop effective implementation plan/ identify and track success measures/adjust course as necessary)

  • Partner with our COEs (Executive Talent Management, Caregiver Experience, Leadership Development, Caregiver Development and Diversity & Inclusion) to help shape and implement system-wide leadership development offerings and key initiatives and processes.

  • Create or contribute to the talent, leadership development and caregiver experience strategies for a region/business line and/or ministry. Use the strategy as the driving force to advise on, design, and implement solutions partnering with HRDs, ministry executive leadership teams and our Centers of Expertise.

  • Understand and analyze data and success measure to determine effectiveness of talent, leadership and caregiver experience solutions within the region.

  • Look to build strategic solutions that will support needs, build out success metrics for evaluation and ROI.

  • Be the interface for assigned organizations for all of our ITM services and a conduit for positive and constructive feedback that helps us to improve.

More specifically:

  • Facilitate and/or participate in regional/business line/functional/ministry talent review processes to identify high potential talent and successors. Help identify talent gaps and develop appropriate talent management interventions; Solution and strategize on the accelerated development opportunities for these populations as appropriate; based on Talent Review data. Help develop systems to track talent movement and development.

  • Partner with ministry leadership teams to build effective strategies to drive caregiver engagement. Proactively access and analyze survey results and other pertinent data to develop an informed and targeted approach. Understand where the “hot spots” , “bright spots” and other trends are within the region and your assigned organizations and partner with ministry executive leadership teams to ensure they have the appropriate plans/interventions in place

  • Help assess the leadership/caregiver development needs within the region/ministry and work with our COEs to develop appropriate interventions / learning experiences. Be aware of our system-wide programs, processes, initiatives and be able to communicate and implement them with your assigned organizations as appropriate.

  • Be familiar with system/regional/ministry diversity & inclusion goals and objectives and partner to develop and implement appropriate solutions


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Organization Development, Industrial Psychology, Human Resources, and Business Administration

  • 5 years practitioner with demonstrated ability to add value to strategic objectives of an organization using a variety of talent management and learning & development methodologies

  • 5 years demonstrated expertise in a broad range of talent development methods, and in the design, implementation, and execution of development solutions across a variety of functions.

  • 5 years’ experience with all aspects of talent including Performance Management, Strategic Workforce development, Talent scorecard/succession, Accelerated Development and Learning

  • Ability to anticipate future trends/consequences and create innovative solutions. Able to analyze and implement quickly, efficiently, and collaboratively.

  • Solid project management skills - needs assessments, learning program design, learning program implementation, learning evaluation strategies ( Change to:)

  • Proven project Management skills- Assessment, design, implementation of large scale complex projects.

  • Proven ability working with C- suite executives focused on executive development, succession, talent and learning solutions. Ability to work as a trusted advisor within the talent space to support the implementation of key talent and learning programs.

  • Can operate independently, and uses a high degree of innovation, creativity, and resourcefulness when providing solutions. Is a do-er and proactively can act as a practitioner when needed- developing solutions, influencing, building readiness and consulting at the highest level.

  • Advanced level facilitation skills, perform as and SME on leading, mentoring, and up skill delivery staff including HR professionals, cross functional core leaders and other to help deploy new solutions.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Organizational Psychology, Organization Development.

  • Certification in Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP), Human Capital Strategist (HCS), Organization Design or other relevant certification program.
