Providence Health & Services PBX Operator in Torrance, California

Description:

Providence is calling a PBX Operator (Per Diem, Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company Of Mary Torrance Hospital in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a PBX Operator who will be reporting to the PBX Supervisor, responsible for greeting, assisting, and directing visitors, patients and other hospital callers in a prompt and courteous manner. Answer and direct all incoming and departmental calls.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Promotes patient, physician, customer and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect

  • Supports and participates in activities that foster customer service

  • Communicates and follows the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate

  • Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education

  • Attend and successfully completes general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements

  • Participate actively in department staff meetings

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications

  • Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations Adult and Geriatric

  • Answer telephones, route calls, take messages and provide routine information to callers

  • Maintain knowledge of various hospital emergency procedures/plans and codes and has the ability to implement those plans/codes according to hospital policy

  • Never leave work station unattended

  • Must obtain verbal acknowledgment from other departments when board is switched over to the other department for breaks and meal periods

  • Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance and safety standards

  • Contact staff members over the central paging system as requested and according to hospital policy

  • Relay patient room numbers to appropriate individuals according to hospital policy

  • Contact on-call personnel as needed according to hospital policy

  • Maintain department records, reports and files as required

  • Perform a variety of clerical functions while keeping patient confidentiality and satisfaction as a priority

  • Demonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Minimal keyboarding experience

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED

  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
