We are seeking a Nuclear Medicine Technologist who will provide health care services using radionuclides to assist in diagnosis and treatment. He/she has the advanced skills to perform a wide variety of nuclear medicine procedures, computer processing of data and other technical tasks necessary to produce images for the interpretation by, and at the request of a licensed practitioner. He/she exercises professional judgment in the performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics while providing appropriate care essential for successful completion of procedures.

  • ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Adheres to organization wide and department specific policies and procedures. Exhibits working knowledge of policies and references policies as needed.

  • Knowledgeable of radiation safety, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) fire/safety policies and procedures.

  • AREAS OF EMPHASIS

  • Performs and/or assists with nuclear medicine procedures according to approved department procedure manual.

  • Surveys, prepares, dispenses and administers radiopharmeceuticals and related materials in accordance with approved department procedure manual and radioactive material’s license. Documents necessary information.

  • Performs non-imaging ( cold lab ) procedures and quality control procedures as required.

  • Performs therapy procedures as required.

  • Performs pharmacological stress testing including lead placement.

  • Prepares patient for procedure by gaining cooperation and minimizing anxiety. Provides teaching to patient and family.

  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all nuclear medicine equipment within the department (i.e., NMIS, Spect camera, computer equipment).

  • AREAS OF EMPHASIS continued

  • Performs daily entry into Nuclear Medicine QC System ( Syntrac ).

  • Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.

  • Reviews patient questionnaire, clinical history , physician notes and/or special instructions. Consults with nuclear radiologist and patient if necessary to assure safety and appropriateness.

  • Verifies patient identification by verbal communication, ID band, etc.

  • Recognizes emergency situations, initiates code and administers aid as needed.

  • Prepares exams in workstations and PACS for interpretation including labeling, formatting and associated paperwork.

  • Keep room/work area neat, orderly and prepared with supplies necessary to complete exams. Assists with ordering and stocking of supplies and equipment.

  • Willingly performs other related duties outside immediate work area as assigned or required (i.e., scheduling, filing, transport ).

  • DOCUMENTATION/INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

  • Records pertinent patient information, completes all paperwork as required and assists in maintaining files. Reviews patients patient’s files and reports as needed per department policy. Is proficient in the use of copier, fax and printer.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of hospital information system, computer-based systems.

  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and compliance in respect to patient care. Maintains complete confidentiality of all patient Leads by example in demonstrated work ethic.

  • Attendance: reports and hospital related information. Secures and handles patient records maintaining patient confidentiality with respect to patient and family rights.

  • LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION

  • Accurately records all work time including meal periods.

  • Punctuality: Ready for work at precise starting time and continues working until scheduled departure time. Returns on time from all meal periods.

  • Appearance: Projects a professional image, follows the hospital dress code policy and/or department requirements. Wears hospital name badge at all times on duty.

  • General Work Habits: Readily accepts work assignments in a positive manner. Performs work that is accurate, neat and consistent. Documentation is legible.

  • DEVELOPMENT

  • Attends all assigned staff development activities including minimum attendance at all scheduled staff meetings.

  • Participates in all in-services and cross training activities as necessary.

  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and practice. Assumes responsibility for maintaining current CPR, TB screening, age specific and required license.

  • COMPETENCY CHARTING / PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital-wide of Performance/Process Improvement (P.I.) Methodology as a condition of employment.

  • Offers suggestions and actively participates in departmental and/or hospital-wide Performance/Process Improvement.

  • Enters, edits and completes exam documentation timely and accurately. Assures patient information and billing codes are marked correctly

  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings. Reports to supervisor any suggestions to increase productivity or quality of work.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of an AMA approved radiologic technologist training program

  • Meet requirements for registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist with ARRT certification and/or certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technologic Certification Board.

  • Requires CTNM, Certification by the State of California department of health services.

  • CPR/RQI

  • Requires certification in starting IV's

  • 6 months experience during the last year, or a minimum of 2 years full-time experience with an absence from nuclear medicine of no more than 1 year

  • Ability to deal effectively with many people

  • Must be able to prioritize, organize, and coordinate care

  • Must be able to compute radioactive isotope dosages

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year experience in nuclear medicine (not required if recent graduate from an approved technician training program)
