Providence is calling a Cook, Lead (Full-time/Variable Shift) to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Cook, Lead who will performs lead role in overseeing work of Cooks, Grill Cooks, and Food Service Workers. Prepare, season, and cook food for hospital patients, employees, and visitors.
In this position you will:
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Improve Organization Performance program and patient/safety standards as mandated by The Joint Commission and regulatory agencies.
Preview menus and work orders to determine type and quantities of meats, vegetables, soups, salads, and desserts to be obtained and prepared.
Provide customer service by greeting all customers promptly and courteously.
Resolve customer complaints with tact and discretion.
Assist in preparing and setting up the service line, ensures food is attractively garnished and temperatures are taken and recorded.
Assign work schedule and reviews work of employees, give input regarding performance and personnel actions, and counsel employees as appropriate.
Oversee the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Lead and or participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Attend meetings as required.
Plan and coordinate cooking schedules so that foods will be ready at required times. Confer with manager/supervisor regarding preparation and use of leftovers.
Prepare, season, and cook food.
Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.
Use a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment including grinders, slices, mixers and blenders.
Ensure all foods prepared meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance.
Ensure that all cooking equipment and utensils are inspected and maintained for cleanliness and proper operation.
Ensure required sanitary levels are maintained throughout the food preparation process.
Alert supervisor to problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies. Detect and report spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment or other unusual conditions.
Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Maintain accurate service records and reports; records amounts and leftover after each meal service.
Clean assigned areas following established cleaning procedures and schedules.
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Assist production manager with menu building for café and catering.
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings, and workshops.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Food Handlers or Serve-Safe Certification
1 year cooking experience in large scale, healthcare, or similar institutional food service
Knowledge of cooking methods/procedures, including types of preparation and related routines
Ability to read recipes and formatted menus
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and mutli-tasking
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in related field or culinary school
Advanced training in culinary systems and practices
