Providence Health & Services Clinical Supervisor Respiratory Care Practioner in Torrance, California


Providence is calling a Clinical Supervisor RCP (Full time, Night shift) to Providence Little Company Of Mary Torrance Hospital in Torrance, CA.

We are seeking a Clinical Supervisor RCP who is responsible for maintaining standards of professional and ethical practice in accordance with regulatory agencies and the Respiratory Care Practice Act. He or she is a certified or registered therapist who is accountable and responsible for the delivery of direct respiratory care to all age ranges of patients from neonates to adults.

Clinical Supervisor RCP coordinates the effective functioning of Respiratory Care Services, coordinating daily work flow and maintaining staffing schedules. In addition, participates in the interview process and makes recommendations for hiring, takes part in the disciplinary process with staff, evaluates Respiratory staff utilizing the performance management tool, and is responsible for training and orienting new employees. Supports the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Respiratory Care Services Department and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations.

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Perform the duties of a RCP as defined in the RCP job description at a proficient level

  • Serve as a clinical resource to staff therapists for clinical recommendations, troubleshooting, and problem solving

  • Responsible for assignment and coordination of patient care, to include staffing to patient volume per shift and assessing specific staffing needs

  • Actively create an environment for safe delivery of patient care and functions with a constant awareness of safety issues identified within the ministry

  • Demonstrate an awareness of legal issues with respect to patient care and seeks guidance to handle all situations in a manner minimizing risk

  • Assess competency of staff and maintains staff records

  • Assure compliance with all hospital and department standards/policies as designated

  • Actively support the ministry with regards to continuous compliance with all regulatory and performance improvement standards including, but not limited to The Joint Commission, Department of Health Services, CMS Core Measures, IHI initiatives, etc

  • Responsible for the timely completion of all Hospital, Department and Performance Improvement audits

  • Maintain confidentiality in all patient and hospital related information

  • Assist with and provides input to the development/revision of policies and procedures regarding Respiratory Care Services

  • Actively participate in performance improvement activities and works to correct identified deficiencies

  • Participate in preparation for The Joint Commission audits. Attends the site visit meeting for Respiratory Care Services and unit visits as assigned

  • Provide input to budgeting processes, assures prudent and efficient use of equipment and supplies

  • Actively participate in the development and delivery of in-services/classes for the continued enrichment of the Respiratory staff or other departments as requested

  • Attend staff development activities for the department, including staff meetings

  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth and practice, participating in continuing education programs and seminars to maintain current competency in respiratory care and respiratory related subjects


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree or Graduate of a two year Respiratory Program

  • Current California State Respiratory Care Practitioner license

  • Current ACLS, BCLS certification

  • ABG certification

  • 2 years acute care setting, to include adult critical care

  • 1 year supervisory or lead experience in an acute care setting

  • Maintains working knowledge of applicable regulatory agency standards and the Respiratory Care Practice Act

  • Demonstrates competency in selected technical and psychomotor skills

  • Demonstrates sound basic knowledge in the caring and the decision-making process for a designated patient population

  • Demonstrates competency and working knowledge of the Hospital Information System and good working knowledge of computer skills

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • RRT credential issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care

  • EKG competency certified

  • Phlebotomy certified

  • Membership in a professional organization; CSRC, AARC, or NBRC

  • 1 year experience as Level II or III ICNN
